  4. WORKING DAY WITH THE VAN EYCK MYSTIC LAMB RESTORATION TEAM

On 21st November 2024, I had the pleasure of taking part in a round table of experts at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent on the restoration of Van Eyck’s Mystic Lamb, one of the most important pictorial references in the history of art.

The complexity of certain artistic techniques used on the upper panels, mainly that known as ‘applied brocade’, led the restoration team of the Royal Institute of Artistic Heritage in Brussels, which is leading the project, to convene this working session.

A small number of specialists had the privilege of taking a close look at these marvellous paintings, exchanging experiences and discussing practical processes and uses in order to contribute to the conservation project.

While awaiting the completion of the restoration of the polyptych, the website https://closertovaneyck.kikirpa.be/ allows virtual monitoring of all the operations and findings. Congratulations to the IRPA team for their work.
