A team from Gordailua, Gipuzkoa’s Heritage Collections Centre, including Cristina Fernández and Itziar Gutiérrez, organised a visit to the Parish Church of Santa María de la Asunción in Aizarna, with the aim of highlighting, raising awareness of and sharing the town’s religious heritage with its inhabitants.
Aizarna was the first stop on a route that will cover the whole territory and whose purpose is to encourage the active participation of citizens in the conservation of religious cultural heritage. Through these sessions, citizens, historians and conservation professionals will collaborate, promoting reflection on conservation and new uses for religious temples. In fact, everyone’s involvement is essential to guarantee the future of our heritage.
Many thanks to the residents of Aizarna and, in particular, to all those who have taken part in this pilot project. The first step in heritage conservation is knowledge. What is not known is not appreciated or valued, and therefore is not cared for or protected.
