We visited Aizarna, thanks to the Department of Culture of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, with the aim of highlighting, raising awareness of, and sharing the town’s religious heritage with its residents.
Aizarna was the first stop on the route of a project that extends throughout the region.
The purpose of this project is to encourage active citizen participation in the conservation of religious cultural heritage. Through these sessions, citizens, historians, and conservation professionals will collaborate, promoting reflection on the conservation and new uses of religious buildings. In fact, everyone’s involvement is essential to guarantee the future of our heritage.
Many thanks to the residents of Aizarna and, especially, to everyone who participated in this pilot project. The first step in heritage conservation is knowledge. What is unknown is not appreciated or valued, and therefore is neither cared for nor protected.
